Job Title
Principal Field Application Engineer - Automotive MCU
Role Summary
Provide customer-facing technical support and field application engineering for Automotive MCU platforms across automotive domains (BMS, Body/Zone, Infotainment). Work directly with customer engineering teams and internal product/R&D groups to ensure project execution, issue resolution, and adoption of MCU solutions.
Experience Level
Senior. Preferred experience: 5β8 years in automotive electronics, embedded systems, or customer-facing technical roles (FAE, application engineering, technical support).
Responsibilities
Support customers through development, validation, and early production of MCU-based ECUs and systems.
- Provide on-site and remote technical support and act as the primary technical interface for assigned customers.
- Support application domains including BMS, Body/Zone Controllers (AUTOSAR or non-AUTOSAR), and Radio/Audio/Infotainment systems.
- Assist MCU bring-up, peripheral configuration (ADC, timers, PWM, DMA, communication interfaces), and system integration.
- Analyze and resolve hardware, software, and system-level customer issues; perform embedded software debugging (drivers, RTOS, JTAG/trace).
- Coordinate issue escalation and closure with internal AE, R&D, and product teams.
- Advise customers on automotive cybersecurity basics (secure boot, secure communications, key usage) and support related integration debugging.
- Demonstrate awareness of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) concepts and their impact on system design and software integration.
- Participate in design reviews, deliver technical workshops, support NPI phases, and maintain structured documentation and follow-up.
Requirements
Core technical and customer-support capabilities required; preferred items listed separately.
-
Must-have:
- 5β8 years supporting automotive electronics, embedded systems, or customer-facing technical roles.
- Practical experience supporting customer projects (field/FAE experience preferred over pure R&D ownership).
- Experience with Automotive MCU platforms and common MCU peripherals (ADC, timers, PWM, DMA, comms).
- Experience with embedded software stacks, BSPs, peripheral drivers, and embedded debugging tools (JTAG, trace, logging, memory analysis).
- System-level understanding of ECUs (HW/SW interaction) and one or more application domains: BMS, Body/Zone, Radio/Audio/Infotainment.
- English proficiency for technical communication and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
-
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR Classic (CP) concepts and integration.
- Experience supporting OEMs or Tierβ1 customers.
- Exposure to Automotive Ethernet switches or Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) concepts.
- Experience with system validation or field issue troubleshooting.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
