Job Title
Principal Engineer, Verification
Role Summary
Lead functional logic verification for complex SoCs within Intel's SoC Design Verification organization. Drive verification strategy, implement scalable verification environments, and ensure designs meet performance, power, and security targets.
Work cross-functionally with architects, RTL designers, postsilicon and physical design teams; provide technical leadership and mentoring across the organization.
Experience Level
Level: Senior. The posting indicates very senior experience; candidates typically have extensive industry experience (posting references on the order of 15+ years depending on degree).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning and executing presilicon verification and improving verification methodology and infrastructure.
- Define and implement scalable block, subsystem, and SoC verification plans and reusable testbenches/environments aligned to microarchitecture specs.
- Develop and run emulation and system-level simulations to validate functionality, power, and performance targets.
- Investigate, root-cause, and debug presilicon failures; implement corrective actions and escalate as needed.
- Collaborate with SoC architects, RTL developers, postsilicon and physical design teams to verify architectural and microarchitectural features.
- Document test plans, lead technical reviews, and maintain verification artifacts and metrics.
- Integrate security verification (regressions and debug tests) into verification flows to ensure security coverage.
- Maintain and evolve functional verification infrastructure and methodology based on postsilicon learnings.
- Provide technical direction, mentor engineers, and influence verification practices across teams.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience required to perform the role; preferred items listed separately.
- Proficiency in SystemVerilog and verification methodologies (OVM/UVM) for environment and testbench development.
- Proven expertise in SoC functional logic verification, including design-for-verification, test content development, and test planning.
- Extensive experience with debugging, hardware simulation, emulation, and hardware validation techniques.
- Strong knowledge of digital design fundamentals, systems architecture, and SoC microarchitecture principles.
- Ability to develop and execute comprehensive SoC test plans and integrate feature tests.
- Demonstrated root-cause analysis skills and experience implementing fixes for pre-silicon failures.
- Experience improving verification infrastructure and adapting methodology from postsilicon feedback.
- Clear technical communication and the ability to lead technical reviews across cross-functional teams.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Preferred: Master’s or PhD in related fields. The posting ties degree levels to experience expectations (e.g., BS with ~15+ years; MS with ~12+ years; PhD with ~8+ years). Equivalent practical experience may be considered where specified.
