Job Title

Principal Engineer - Validation SSD NVMe/PCIe

Role Summary

Lead validation for Micron SSD firmware (NVMe/PCIe) across functional, system-level and customer-quality tests. Work with internal engineering teams and hyperscale/datacenter customers through the product lifecycle to improve quality and shorten cycle time.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 8+ years of relevant experience (posting indicates 8–14 years in embedded firmware or 8+ years in SSD product validation).

Responsibilities

The role is responsible for planning, implementing and executing validation for SSD firmware and associated system interactions.

  • Define test plans and test cases for SSD firmware validation covering NVMe/PCIe, IO workloads, FTL and NAND/media management.
  • Develop and maintain test scripts and integrate tests into automated test environments.
  • Debug NVMe/PCIe protocol issues using protocol analyzers (e.g., Lecroy/JDSU) and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Execute system-level and customer-centric qualification tests and document results and sightings.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, platform and customer engineering teams to drive issues to closure.
  • Communicate program status, risks and mitigation plans to stakeholders.
  • Work directly with hyperscale/datacenter customers to align validation to customer requirements and improve product quality.

Requirements

Key skills and experience required for success in this role.

Must-have:

  • 8+ years relevant experience in embedded firmware or SSD product validation (posting indicates 8–14 years).
  • Strong understanding of NVMe and PCIe specifications and NVMe Cloud SSD concepts.
  • Hands-on experience debugging NVMe protocol issues with protocol analyzers (Lecroy/JDSU).
  • Experience writing test plans for IO workloads, NVMe protocols, Flash Translation Layer and NAND/back-end media management.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux debugging; proficient coding in Python.
  • Deep knowledge of system storage and platform interactions (CPU, memory, PCIe, drivers, OS, firmware).
  • Proven communication, analytical, problem-solving and project-management skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with integrating tests into automated execution environments and tracking test results.
  • Skilled in using AI tools to assist code generation, report generation, root cause analysis and debugging activities.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with datacenter compute and storage platforms (e.g., Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware vSphere/VSAN).
  • Prior use of UNH and PCIe-CV test suites for SSD validation.
  • Experience working directly with hyperscale/datacenter customers on validation and qualification.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical/Related Engineering (Computer Engineering, Electronics) is specified as the expected qualification.
