Principal Engineer — Technology Development (2027 New College Graduate)

Role Summary

Join the Technology Development team supporting GF’s 200mm manufacturing site in Vermont (FAB9). The role embeds in cross-functional project teams (process, integration, device engineering) to develop and qualify CMOS, SiGe, and GaN process flows and device solutions for RF applications.

Experience Level

Entry-level / New College Graduate (role targeted to recent graduates; position specifies a Ph.D. as the required academic credential).

Responsibilities

The position supports technology development from experimentation through manufacturing qualification and requires collaboration across engineering and manufacturing functions.

  • Develop and integrate advanced process modules to meet performance, reliability, yield, and cost targets.
  • Plan and execute experiments; analyze results, inline measurements, defect and capability data, and constructional analysis.
  • Support technology development qualification milestones from concept through manufacturing installation.
  • Collaborate with test/characterization, failure analysis, unit process, reliability, and manufacturing teams to achieve program objectives.
  • Adhere to Environmental, Health, Safety & Security procedures and safe handling required for clean-room work.

Requirements

Core technical and practical requirements for immediate contribution to technology development projects.

  • Must-have: Basic knowledge of semiconductor device physics and device characterization, and familiarity with semiconductor processing and manufacturing environments.
  • Must-have: Fluent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Must-have: Ability to work in a manufacturing clean room and handle product per clean-room procedures.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with MS Office and statistical analysis methods including Cpk and Design of Experiments.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior internship or co-op experience in semiconductor R&D or manufacturing.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with CMOS, SiGe, and/or GaN processing for RF applications.
  • Nice-to-have: Educational or practical experience in modern device physics (FET, BJT, LDMOS, HEMT), and associated electrical test/analysis of discrete devices.
  • Nice-to-have: Project management, planning, and strong interpersonal/communication skills.

Education Requirements

Required: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Solid State Physics, Microelectronics, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a related technical field from an accredited program. Preferred: prior internship or co-op experience and coursework or research in device physics and electrical test methods.
