Principal Engineer, System Architecture

Role Summary

Define system-level technology and product strategy for Analog Devices' Automotive GMSL high-speed serial link integrated circuits. Work with IC design, product management, customers, and ecosystem partners to create product definitions, run architectural trade studies, and represent ADI in the OpenGMSL Association.

Provide technical leadership across product definition, standards development, customer engagements, and competitive/market research to shape the 3–5 year roadmap.

Responsibilities

Accountabilities include system architecture, product definition, standards participation, and customer technical support.

  • Develop deep expertise in GMSL PHY, link layer, and protocol adapters.
  • Create detailed product definitions for high-speed serial link ICs (architecture, specifications, feature sets).
  • Produce technical documentation including datasheets and customer presentations.
  • Support customer RFI/RFQ responses and provide technical guidance on architecture and technology selection.
  • Represent ADI and actively contribute to the OpenGMSL Association and its work groups.
  • Build system models and run behavioral simulations to evaluate architectural tradeoffs.
  • Perform independent technology and competitive research to inform product roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with ecosystem partners and internal teams to align on technologies and product direction.
  • Contribute to product line roadmaps, including considerations for functional safety and security.
  • Travel globally to engage with customers and technology partners.

Requirements

  • Must-have:
    • 10+ years of professional experience in electronics, systems engineering, or related roles.
    • Experience with analog and digital design and system architectures.
    • Strong verbal, presentation, and written communication skills; excellent listening and perception.
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently and cross-functionally.
    • Ability to travel approximately 2–3 weeks per quarter, including international trips.
  • Nice-to-have:
    • Experience in automotive applications, product definition, or standards development.
    • High-speed SerDes, RF systems, or automotive Ethernet experience.
    • Familiarity with digital video transport and serial interfaces (I2C, SPI, Ethernet, HDMI).
    • Functional safety and cybersecurity expertise.
    • Experience participating in industry standards organizations or work groups.

Education Requirements
