Job Title

Principal Engineer Quantum Technology Development

Role Summary

The Principal Engineer will support 300mm semiconductor manufacturing and technology development in Malta, NY, focusing on silicon photonics process integration, yield improvement, and ramping a 45nm Silicon Photonics product from development to mature production.

The role owns a technology module, defines and executes experiments, analyzes technical data, and coordinates cross-functional teams to meet performance, reliability, defectivity, cost, and delivery targets.

Experience Level

Senior β€” position expects substantial prior experience. Typical experience guidance provided by the employer: BS + 4 years, MS + 2 years, or PhD + 1 year of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include ownership of technology ramp, process integration, data-driven issue resolution, and cross-functional coordination.

  • Own the 45nm Silicon Photonics technology product ramp from development to mature production.
  • Full ownership of a technology module: prioritize projects, delegate tasks to extended team, and lead experiment definition and hardware disposition.
  • Develop and qualify silicon photonics process flows and process integrations to meet product performance, reliability, and defectivity targets.
  • Monitor process and electrical metrics, detect line issues via data analysis, and drive timely containment and root-cause resolution to limit yield impact.
  • Collaborate with device and process teams to drive development of new production technologies.
  • Drive cost reductions through expense elimination, line and test yield improvements, and efficiency measures.
  • Ensure product route synchronization with baseline technology and coordinate milestones across teams.
  • Engage with customers to report issues, status, and milestones.
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.

Requirements

Technical and interpersonal requirements. Degree and specific year thresholds are listed under Education Requirements.

  • Must have: Integration experience in semiconductor manufacturing, including process integration and lithography.
  • Must have: Knowledge of semiconductor processing, defectivity control, and test chips/test structures for yield limiter identification and improvement.
  • Must have: Experience defining and executing experiments and analyzing technical data to drive improvements.
  • Must have: Ability to work effectively with diverse cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Nice-to-have: Exposure to Silicon Photonics (academic or practical), Lean Manufacturing knowledge, and familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Nice-to-have: Lab or pre-professional experience in semiconductor processing.

Education Requirements

Requires a technical (university) degree in Science, Math, Engineering, Semiconductor Manufacturing, or a related discipline. Experience thresholds specified by the employer: BS with a minimum of 4+ years relevant experience; MS with a minimum of 2+ years; PhD with a minimum of 1+ years. The posting also notes that exposure to silicon photonics may come through university coursework or degree-related experience.
