Role Summary
Senior product engineer for high-reliability and space-grade power discrete semiconductors in Microchip's Hi Rel and RF Solutions group based in Lawrence, MA. Lead qualification, characterization, and continuous improvement across foundry, test, assembly and manufacturing.
Primary focus: drive product qualification, yield and quality improvements, support customer-facing engineering, and mentor less experienced engineers.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum 10 years' experience in semiconductor product engineering; experience with discrete device characterization and qualification required.
Responsibilities
Accountabilities include product qualification, documentation, cross-functional coordination, and mentoring.
- Design, characterize, and qualify discrete power semiconductor products (diodes, transistors, MOSFETs).
- Drive yield, quality improvement and cost reduction with foundries, assembly, test and QA teams.
- Lead root-cause and failure analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
- Plan and execute electrical parameter testing and hands-on test characterization.
- Manage product BOMs; create and review assembly/screening travelers and datasheets.
- Provide customer-facing engineering and custom product support.
- Drive new product qualification and support marketing and planning groups.
- Mentor and lead less experienced engineers within the Product Engineering team.
- Occasional domestic travel (up to 25%).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and eligibility are listed first; additional beneficial skills follow.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing product engineering for discrete devices.
- Hands-on experience with AC/DC electrical parameter testing for diodes, transistors and MOSFETs, including test characterization and analysis.
- Experience with radiation effects and testing (TID, SEE, ELDRS).
- Proven experience in root-cause/failure analysis and troubleshooting.
- Experience collaborating with foundry, test, manufacturing, QA, suppliers and subcontractors to qualify materials and packages.
- Ability to create and review product documentation and manage BOM changes.
- U.S. export control eligibility required: U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3).
- Able to perform standard lab/office tasks (primarily sitting; some standing and walking).
Nice-to-have:
- Working knowledge of MIL-PRF-19500, MIL-STD-750 and MIL-STD-883 for reviewing customer drawings.
- Six Sigma familiarity; FMEA, DMEA, 5-whys and other root-cause methodologies.
- Statistical tools (JMP, Minitab); SPICE modeling and parameter extraction.
- Experience with LabVIEW, Silvaco TCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or relevant engineering degree required; Master’s degree (MS) preferred.
