Job Title
Principal Engineer, Mixed Signal Design Engineering
Role Summary
As a principal/staff mixed-signal design engineer in ADI's Shanghai design center, you will design high-performance analog and mixed-signal circuit blocks from specification through silicon validation. You will collaborate with global design teams to support process development and next-generation semiconductor products.
Experience Level
Senior β typically expected 7+ years experience for a Master's-level hire or 5+ years with a PhD (see Education Requirements for details).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include circuit design, verification, and collaboration across teams.
- Design transistor-level analog and mixed-signal blocks (data converters, signal conditioning, references, LDOs, charge pumps).
- Execute schematic-to-silicon flow: simulation, layout oversight, parasitic-aware verification, and tape-out support.
- Develop and validate behavioral models for system-level simulation; perform layout-dependent effect analysis and design centering across process corners.
- Support silicon bring-up, debug, and correlate measured results with simulation predictions.
- Apply AI/ML techniques to improve design automation, optimization, and modeling workflows.
- Optimize trade-offs across power, area, speed, noise, and linearity; perform signal integrity, noise budgeting, and reliability assessments.
- Participate in cross-site design reviews and collaborate with global teams; travel internationally up to ~10%.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and workplace capabilities.
- Strong transistor-level design skills for high-performance analog and mixed-signal circuits.
- Proven ability to deliver designs through tape-out, silicon validation, and production release.
- Deep understanding of CMOS and BCD process technologies, device physics, matching, and layout-dependent effects.
- Proficiency with Cadence IC design tools (Virtuoso, Spectre/APS, AMS Designer).
- Experience with digitally-assisted and high-speed analog design techniques.
- Experience in parasitic-aware simulation, Monte Carlo analysis, and yield optimization.
- Fluent Mandarin and strong English written and verbal communication for cross-site collaboration.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across global, cross-functional teams and time zones.
Education Requirements
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with 7+ years of analog/mixed-signal IC design experience, or PhD with 5+ years; Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) accepted if it provides equivalent depth of experience. Fields: Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical disciplines; equivalent practical experience considered.
