Principal Engineer, Memory CAD Engineering
Role Summary
The Principal Engineer leads development and improvement of CAD/EDA tools, flows, and automation used across memory IC design, physical implementation, and verification. The role partners with design, process, and software teams to increase engineering productivity and to integrate AI/ML into CAD workflows.
Primary duties include technical leadership of large projects, tool evaluation, and delivering training and support to engineering teams.
Experience Level
Senior - 10+ years of experience in semiconductor engineering, CAD/EDA, design automation, verification, or related areas.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead development, evaluation, and enhancement of CAD/EDA tools, flows, and methodologies.
- Drive large-scale technical projects and provide subject-matter expertise in CAD and design automation.
- Guide integration of AI and machine-learning techniques into CAD workflows and engineering applications.
- Collaborate with design and process engineering teams to improve design efficiency and tool effectiveness.
- Deliver training, documentation, and technical support for new tools, processes, and methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 10+ years of experience in semiconductor engineering, CAD/EDA, design automation, verification, or related areas.
- Experience with IC design CAD tools, including schematic capture, layout, simulation, and verification.
- Strong programming skills in Python and at least one additional language such as SKILL, C, C++, Perl, Lisp, or Visual Basic.
- Knowledge of CMOS circuit design and implementation, including area, performance, and power trade-offs.
- Proven ability to lead projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with AI/ML, large language models, agentic AI, or AI-enabled engineering applications.
- Familiarity with RTL-to-GDSII implementation flows and tools (e.g., Fusion Compiler, Innovus, PrimeTime, Formality, RedHawk-SC, SpyGlass).
- Experience with analog or digital verification flows, parasitic extraction flows, or design database version control systems.
- Experience working in Unix environments and developing shell scripts.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
