Principal Engineer, IP Design Methodology and Quality
Role Summary
Lead technical quality and design-methodology improvements for silicon IP across multiple product lines. Drive root-cause investigations, institutionalize durable quality practices, and mentor senior and mid-level engineers to raise engineering consistency and predictability.
Work cross-functionally with R&D, applications, and program management to reduce escalations and embed quality ownership across teams.
Experience Level
Senior — 15+ years in advanced technical roles in silicon, systems, or software.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on investigating major IP quality issues, improving processes, and influencing engineering practices at scale.
- Lead deep-dive RCCA and 8D investigations for high-visibility silicon IP issues and verify fixes.
- Develop, improve, and drive adoption of quality standards and design flows.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews and after-action reporting.
- Translate business goals into practical, sustainable technical strategies and plans.
- Identify systemic risks early and coordinate cross-team interventions.
- Act as the trusted technical representative for internal stakeholders on IP quality decisions.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and practical skills; items listed as "nice-to-have" are beneficial but not mandatory.
- Must-have: 15+ years of experience in advanced technical roles in silicon, systems, or software.
- Must-have: Expertise in at least one core silicon IP interface (PHY, SerDes, DDR, HBM, UCIe).
- Must-have: Demonstrated experience running RCCA and 8D investigations that resulted in durable fixes.
- Must-have: Proven track record institutionalizing engineering or quality practices across teams.
- Must-have: Strong verbal and written communication; able to explain complex technical risk to executives and engineers.
- Must-have: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira for reporting and documentation.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with automation, workflow digitization, or quality data analytics.
- Nice-to-have: Impact across multiple product lines or technology generations.
Education Requirements
Advanced degree required: MS, PhD, or MBA in a relevant technical field. The role specifies an advanced degree combined with a minimum of 15 years of experience in silicon, systems, or software.
