Job Title

Principal Engineer, Hardware & Silicon Validation

Role Summary

Work on post-silicon validation for multi-core SoCs in the Compute and Custom Solutions unit, focusing on PCIe and Ethernet interfaces. Support silicon bring-up, functional and electrical validation, firmware integration, and development of test utilities and plans.

The team validates IO interfaces and features on new SOCs, including Ethernet, RFOE, and PCIe, and collaborates with firmware and platform engineers to enable customer platforms.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience: 10–15 years with a Bachelor’s degree, or 5–10 years with a Master’s or PhD.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include silicon bring-up, validation, firmware integration, and debug of high-speed IO interfaces.

  • Integrate and support PCIe and Ethernet initialization firmware within SDKs.
  • Develop and execute post-silicon validation test plans and system-level tests.
  • Use diagnostic lab equipment and protocol analyzers to debug IO interfaces.
  • Develop embedded firmware, software utilities, and automation to enable platform bring-up.
  • Support product bring-up activities and lead root-cause analysis of silicon issues.

Requirements

Core technical skills required; candidates should be hands-on with silicon and system-level validation.

  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe Gen5/Gen6, 100G/200G Ethernet).
  • Proven experience debugging complex hardware/software interactions and performing root-cause analysis.
  • Test development and execution experience at system or silicon level, including bring-up and low-level initialization flows.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and embedded firmware development.
  • Hands-on use of lab equipment (oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, traffic generators) for debug and validation.
  • Nice-to-have: automation and scripting (Python, shell); familiarity with firmware or networking/SoC platforms.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 10–15 years of relevant professional experience; or Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5–10 years of relevant professional experience.
