Principal Engineer, Embedded Software

Role Summary

Lead architect and technical owner for embedded software solutions that integrate Analog Devices products with processors, microcontrollers, and FPGAs. Work on customer-facing reference designs and production systems across industries including industrial automation, instrumentation, automotive, healthcare, aerospace, and defence.

Drive definition, development, validation, documentation, and customer support as part of cross-functional projects; provide technical and people leadership to engineering teams.

Experience Level

Senior β€” minimum 10 years of relevant embedded software design, implementation, and support experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver software architecture, development, and customer-facing support for embedded platforms; lead teams and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Architect, develop, and maintain multi-platform device drivers and embedded software (processor, FPGA, microcontroller platforms).
  • Lead and mentor software engineering teams through project definition, implementation, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with global engineering, marketing, and applications teams to produce systems and reference solutions.
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and training for customers and field personnel.
  • Define and maintain software documentation and validation artifacts for complex systems.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading software teams and delivering large-scale software projects.
  • Strong experience with Linux subsystems such as IIO, V4L, ALSA, or Ethernet.
  • Proficiency in C and C++; experience with shell scripting.
  • Experience with source-code management (Git, SVN), cross-compilers, and in-circuit debugging tools.
  • Excellent software architecture, analytical debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of electronics and embedded systems design.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on cross-functional teams.
  • Comfort working with large and complex technical documentation.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% for customer or project needs.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. The role specifies a minimum of 10 years of relevant embedded software experience.
