Principal Engineer, Design Enablement (PDK)

Role Summary

Principal device modeling and characterization engineer responsible for compact SPICE model development and automation for digital, analog and RF applications within the Design and Technology Enablement team. Works across device characterization, PDK, process integration and design teams to deliver validated models and PDK components.

Role emphasizes automation, model QA/validation, cross-functional coordination and customer technical support; may develop into a project lead role.

Experience Level

Senior level. Title indicates senior/principal role; prior experience in device modeling or related engineering is expected.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include technical delivery, cross-team coordination, and customer support for compact device models and PDK projects.

• Develop and deliver SPICE/compact device models for digital, analog and RF technologies to meet quality and schedule targets.
• Automate model extraction and characterization flows to improve efficiency and repeatability.
• Collaborate with ML and central engineering teams to improve model efficiency and extraction methods.
• Define and drive best practices for data selection, model extraction, QA/validation and circuit benchmarking across technology platforms.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams (Device Model Lab, PDK, Device, Process Integration, Design Manual, Test-chip/layout) to execute PDK/model projects and resolve related issues.
• Provide technical support to customers, respond to model queries and resolve model-related problems in a timely manner.
• Stay current with industry modeling techniques and incorporate relevant advancements into development processes.

Requirements

Requirements are divided into must-have technical skills and preferred qualifications that strengthen candidacy.

• Must-have: Fundamental knowledge of semiconductor device physics related to compact modeling and understanding of device noise and matching behaviors.
• Must-have: Proficiency in scripting or programming (Python, Perl or similar) for automation and data processing.
• Must-have: English fluency (written and verbal).

Nice-to-have:

• Prior experience in device modeling or device characterization roles.
• Experience in SPICE model generation, QA flows and circuit benchmarking.
• Experience with test-structure layout for individual devices and arrays.
• Demonstrated leadership, project management, planning and organizational skills.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills for customer engagement and documentation.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or Physics is specified.
