Principal Engineer - CAD (Physical Verification)

Role Summary

Design and maintain physical verification flows and rule decks to support IC layout verification across multiple development sites. Work with Technology Development, Device Engineering, and layout/design teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability of devices.

Experience Level

Mid-level - 5+ years of relevant experience (PDK development and physical verification).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building verification tests, supporting engineers, and improving verification flows.

• Create physical verification regression test cases and QA physical verification decks.
• Support layout and design engineers with physical verification using tools such as Siemens Calibre, Cadence Pegasus, and Synopsys Hercules.
• Apply advanced EDA methods (ESD, ERC, Voltage-Aware DRC, via-doubling) and integrate them into flows.
• Develop, verify, and enhance DRC rule decks and foundry rule decks; work with Technology Development and Device Engineering to add devices and DFM checks.
• Debug physical verification issues and support remote sites worldwide with layout verification activities.
• Contribute to team efforts to develop flows that improve device quality and reliability.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience for the role, followed by helpful additions.

• Must-have: 5+ years developing and supporting PDK activities.
• Must-have: Proficient with SVRF and TVF; accomplished at debugging physical verification (PV) issues.
• Must-have: Experience customizing Calibre Interactive; strong knowledge of Cadence Virtuoso and CalibreDRV.
• Must-have: Solid understanding of layout rules, device identification concepts, and foundry rules.
• Must-have: Excellent English verbal and written communication skills; able to support global teams.
• Must-have: Willingness to travel approximately 0–25%.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with Cadence Pegasus or Synopsys Hercules.
• Nice-to-have: Experience using AI solutions to aid verification or automation.
