Principal Engineer, CAD

Role Summary

Provide CAD tool and flow support for HBM and memory design teams at the Guadalajara Design Center. Drive development and deployment of capabilities across mixed-signal and custom IC design flows, collaborating with layout, verification, and design methodology teams.

Experience Level

Senior — expects experienced engineers. Typical guidance: 5+ years of direct CAD or IC design experience in mixed-signal and custom flows.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day and project responsibilities for CAD enablement and mixed-signal custom IC design support.

  • Support and maintain CAD tools, flows, and collateral to meet HBM and memory design requirements.
  • Collaborate with design, layout, and verification methodology teams to propose and co-develop advanced capabilities.
  • Support full mixed-signal custom IC design lifecycle: logical design, custom layout, parameterized cells, automated place-and-route, physical design verification, ERC, parasitic extraction, netlisting, and pre/post-layout simulation.
  • Perform circuit simulation, timing and power analysis, reliability analysis, and support tape-out and mask generation activities.
  • Qualify vendor tools and validate internally developed software releases; deploy improvements into production flows.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and desirable skills for successful candidates.

  • 5+ years of direct CAD or design experience in mixed-signal, custom IC design flows.
  • Proven experience working in highly technical, distributed IC Design or CAD teams.
  • Familiarity with memory design technologies (DDR3/4/5, LPDDR3/4/5, HBM, NAND).
  • Experience qualifying vendor tools and validating software releases (preferred).
  • Experience developing software prototypes for IC design, layout, or analysis (preferred).
  • Experience with agile software practices; experience applying machine learning or developing production-grade ML solutions in IC design is a plus.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; preferably a Master’s or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
