Principal Engineer

Role Summary

Lead development and delivery of test solution proposals and complete test systems (electrical, mechanical, optical, and software) for board-level, system and environmental stress screening (ESS) test processes. Provide emergency test support, drive continuous improvement of GTS tools and processes, and work with customers and vendors to meet technical and schedule commitments. Role based in Guadalajara.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Develop comprehensive test solution proposals (cost/schedule commitments, test specifications, hardware/software descriptions, validation criteria, and support requirements).
• Design, assemble, debug, validate and deploy test systems and fixtures according to budget and schedule commitments.
• Implement Design For Test (DFT) practices and develop custom circuitry, cable assemblies, racks and automated high‑throughput fixtures.
• Develop and maintain test software using LabWindows/CVI, LabView, TestStand, C/C++, Visual Basic and relevant scripting languages.
• Use CAD and test development tools (OrCAD, AutoCAD) and follow documentation templates (test specifications, BOMs, tester validation).
• Provide test crisis support and operate the GTS hotline for special support requests and emergency customer issues.
• Manage project tracking activities: action items, journals, time entry, milestones, design reviews and deliverable completion.
• Participate in and drive continuous improvement of GTS core competencies, tools and supplier/customer processes.

Requirements

Must-have skills, experience, and attributes; nice-to-have items noted.

• More than eight years of related experience in test development, deployment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Hands-on experience with test equipment and interfaces (GPIB, RS‑232), VXI systems, and custom test hardware/fixtures.
• Experience developing board-level functional test, system test and ESS test processes.
• Proficiency with test software and compilers: LabView/LabWindows/CVI, TestStand, ANSI C/C++, Visual Basic; familiarity with assembly and scripting (Perl, HTML, ASP) is beneficial.
• Experience with DFT, schematic/CAD tools (OrCAD, AutoCAD) and preparing test documentation and BOMs.
• Project and schedule management skills; ability to meet price/schedule commitments and conduct design reviews.
• Able to travel for customer support and deployments (may be international) and perform occasional manufacturing-floor work; able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Strong written and verbal communication, technical writing and presentation skills.
• Nice-to-have: publications, industry conference presentations, and active membership in professional organizations.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electronics or Electrical Engineering required; Master of Science preferred. The posting allows an equivalent combination of education and experience and specifies more than eight years of related experience as an alternative.
