Job Title

Principal Engineer - ASIC Physical Design

Role Summary

Lead physical design for ASICs used in Micron's Enterprise SSD group, focusing on processor and controller subsystems. Deliver block- and full-chip implementation, timing closure, IR/EM analysis and tape-out while coordinating cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Perform block-level and full-chip floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing and RC extraction.
  • Drive STA timing closure and PPA analysis at block and full-chip levels.
  • Analyze and close IR/EM issues across blocks and full chip; use Redhawk-SC for IR/EM validation.
  • Develop and maintain APR flows and integrate implementation tools into the flow.
  • Manage physical verification closure (DRC/LVS/Antenna) and coordinate tape-out activities.
  • Lead and mentor a sub-team to deliver subsystem partitions and meet delivery milestones.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years hands-on physical design implementation, IR/EM work, APR flow development, and PPA analysis.
  • Proven experience achieving STA closure at block and full-chip levels.
  • Experience with advanced process nodes; 5nm/3nm experience preferred.
  • Experience with Ansys Redhawk-SC for IR/EM analysis.
  • Experience with Cadence physical implementation tools such as Innovus and Tempus.
  • Hands-on physical verification experience using Calibre (DRC/LVS/Antenna).
  • Strong fundamentals in digital electronics and microprocessors; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good English communication, collaboration, ownership and time management skills.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience with additional Cadence place-and-route toolset features.
  • Formal verification experience.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Computer Architecture, or a closely related technical field.
