Job Title

Principal Engineer, Application Engineering

Role Summary

As a Principal Engineer in Application Engineering you will be the customer-facing technical lead supporting analog/mixed-signal design on GlobalFoundries' mainstream, RF and advanced-node platforms. You will diagnose design issues, provide technical solutions, coordinate internal teams, and help achieve successful tape-outs and first-pass silicon.

Work directly with customers and cross-functional product, design, and technology teams. Open to candidates from Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea.

Experience Level

Senior. The role is principal-level; the posting specifies a Master's degree plus 3–4 years of hands-on analog design verification experience.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include customer technical support, issue resolution, and cross-functional coordination.

  • Serve as primary technical contact for customers during analog/mixed-signal design cycles.
  • Investigate, debug, and resolve simulation and verification issues (DC/AC/Transient, Monte Carlo, noise, stability, harmonic).
  • Provide technical solutions, customized presentations, and proposals to support customer evaluations and design wins.
  • Coordinate with product marketing, design solutions, and technology development teams to relay customer feedback and improve enablement.
  • Support design wins through tape-out and MPW goals; provide workarounds and ensure first-pass silicon success.
  • Collaborate with account and sales managers and transition projects to field technical support and customer engineering teams.

Requirements

Key technical skills and abilities required or strongly preferred.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience building and verifying analog circuit blocks using EDA tools such as Cadence Spectre and ADE.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with front-to-back analog mixed-signal verification flows and ability to run and debug circuit simulations.
  • Must-have: Experience with device modeling and Unix/Linux; familiarity with scripting (Ocean, Skill) and good documentation skills.
  • Must-have: English fluency (written and verbal).
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of digital implementation and place-and-route (P&R) flows for end-to-end customer support.
  • Nice-to-have: Project management, strong problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to train customers and work in cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering (ECE) required; the posting specifies a Master's with a minimum of 3–4 years of hands-on analog design verification experience. No equivalent-experience alternative was stated.
