Principal Engineer, Analog Design
RenesasJob Title
Principal Engineer, Analog Design
Role Summary
Senior individual-contributor responsible for ownership of complex analog IP, converter subsystems, and silicon execution from concept through production. Role sits within Renesas' analog and power engineering organization and focuses on power-management, mixed-signal, and analog IC design for product lines including PMICs and battery-management solutions.
Experience Level
Senior - 15+ years of relevant experience in analog, mixed-signal, or power-management IC design.
Responsibilities
Lead architecture, circuit design, verification, and silicon bring-up for analog and power-management IP and subsystems.
- Define and own architecture and block-level specifications for analog and power-management IP used in PMICs, converters, and mixed-signal ICs.
- Design and validate blocks such as switching converters (buck/boost/buck-boost), LDOs, charge pumps, references, op-amps, comparators, ADCs, sensors, and protection circuits.
- Architect and implement converter control loops; perform stability/compensation analysis and select appropriate control strategies.
- Perform block-level error budgeting and system-level trade-offs across performance, area, power, cost, and manufacturability.
- Drive verification and simulation strategy across schematic, extracted, pre-layout, and post-layout environments; optimize simulation setups and resolve tool/model issues.
- Lead silicon validation, characterization, debug, qualification, production readiness, and root-cause analysis for silicon issues.
- Collaborate with layout, product engineering, test, reliability, and manufacturing teams from floor planning through tape-out and production release.
- Guide layout trade-offs related to matching, noise, parasitics, isolation, current density, and thermal/IR concerns; ensure ESD and latch-up requirements are met.
- Establish and drive analog design methodology, review processes, reusable IP practices, and quality standards; lead technical reviews and mentor engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience, proven execution, and leadership as a senior individual contributor.
- 15+ years of hands-on experience in analog, mixed-signal, or power-management IC design with ownership from architecture through silicon and production.
- Deep expertise in PMICs and switching regulators, LDOs, charge pumps, and related analog IP development.
- Strong understanding of analog feedback loops, control-loop compensation, stability analysis, and converter-architecture trade-offs.
- Experience with schematic design, circuit simulation, extraction, and post-layout verification flows and industry-standard tools.
- Thorough knowledge of analog layout effects, parasitics, matching, noise, ESD, latch-up, and other IC-level reliability concerns.
- Proven track record taking designs through tape-out, silicon validation, qualification support, and production release.
- Ability to lead technical decisions, establish design methodology, run design reviews, and mentor junior/mid-level engineers without formal people-management authority.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across global, multisite, and multicultural teams; self-driven and results-oriented under tight schedules.
- Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with SAR ADCs, temperature/current sensors, ultra-low-power oscillators, and high-current power-management use cases.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
