Principal Engineer
MicrochipJob Title
Principal Engineer
Role Summary
Lead post-silicon physical-layer electrical validation and characterization for high-speed SerDes interfaces. Work within the validation lab to plan, execute, and report on silicon bring-up, compliance testing, and debug activities.
Provide technical leadership on automation, test infrastructure, and cross-functional coordination with design and product engineering teams. Travel expected up to 25%.
Experience Level
Senior level β typically 8β10 years post-silicon validation experience for B.Tech holders or 6β8 years for M.Tech holders, or equivalent industry experience.
Responsibilities
Hands-on ownership of laboratory validation activities and test automation for high-speed physical interfaces.
- Lead silicon bring-up and laboratory testing to validate electrical performance of high-speed SerDes.
- Plan and execute compliance testing for PCIe, USB, Ethernet, DDR and other interfaces.
- Develop and maintain hardware infrastructure, testbeds, and automation scripts (Linux/Python).
- Perform debug, root-cause analysis, and characterization using oscilloscopes, BERTs, VNAs, and other lab equipment.
- Document test plans and generate clear characterization reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with design and product engineering teams to resolve post-silicon issues and implement corrective actions.
Requirements
Core technical skills and practical experience required for immediate contribution.
- Extensive hands-on post-silicon physical-layer validation and debug experience (high-speed SerDes).
- Deep knowledge of high-speed SerDes protocols such as PCIe, USB, CXL, and Ethernet.
- Strong understanding of jitter decomposition, equalization, and de-embedding techniques.
- Practical experience with high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, BERT, VNA, and other RF/analog lab instruments.
- Proficiency in Python and Linux for test automation and scripting.
- Experience developing and maintaining hardware automation and test infrastructure.
- Able to produce high-quality test plans and technical reports; effective cross-functional communication.
Education Requirements
B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (Electrical/Electronics) as stated in the posting.
