Principal Electrical Engineer
Voyant PhotonicsJob Title
Principal Electrical Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver analog and mixed-signal electronics for compact, high-performance LiDAR hardware. Work across product design, silicon photonics, firmware, and mechanical teams to take designs from concept through production.
Remote role with required travel for collaboration, testing, and manufacturing support.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 7+ years of hands-on hardware development with end-to-end ownership of systems that shipped at scale.
Responsibilities
Lead development and validation of analog/mixed-signal hardware and ensure system-level reliability and manufacturability.
- Architect and develop low-noise analog and mixed-signal electronics using TIAs, ADCs, precision current sources, LDOs, and switching regulators.
- Own designs from schematic capture and component selection through PCB layout collaboration and production release.
- Ensure signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC compliance for high-speed and noise-sensitive interfaces.
- Define and execute bring-up, characterization, DVT/EVT, and validation plans focused on robustness and repeatability.
- Analyze trade-offs for performance, cost, power, and integration in constrained product architectures.
- Collaborate with system architects, mechanical engineers, and firmware teams for system integration and reliability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and demonstrated execution in high-reliability hardware design.
- 7+ years of hands-on hardware development, including shipped products at scale.
- Deep expertise in low-noise analog and high-speed digital design.
- Strong knowledge of signal/power integrity, high-density interconnect, and EMI mitigation.
- Experience with schematic capture and simulation (e.g., SPICE) and PCB tools such as Altium.
- Experience with SI/PI simulation tools (e.g., HyperLynx, SiWave) and GHz-range measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers).
- Familiarity with board-level integration of FPGAs, microcontrollers, and custom analog ASICs.
- Proven ability to deliver designs under tight constraints on power, cost, form factor, and schedule.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with high-speed ADCs, custom analog IC interfaces, or photonics-related electronics.
- Knowledge of flex and rigid-flex PCB design.
- Familiarity with Verilog-AMS or mixed-signal modeling and exposure to Verilog HDL/FPGA development.
- Experience designing for automotive, aerospace, or other harsh/high-reliability environments.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
