Principal Electrical Engineer
Role Summary
Lead transistor-level and mixed-signal design for power management integrated circuits, from product definition through validation and transfer to production. Work within the Rad-Hard analog/mixed-signal design team focused on high-reliability power management products for space, industrial, and infrastructure markets.
The role requires technical leadership across design, validation, process interaction, and cross-functional program management to deliver robust power-management ICs (DC-DC converters, LDOs, gate drivers) targeting Rad-Hard applications.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience profile: MSEE +10 years, PhD +8 years, or BSEE +15 years of relevant industry experience in analog/mixed-signal or power-management IC design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical design, validation, and program leadership:
- Define product requirements with marketing, applications, and customers.
- Perform transistor-level design of mixed-signal power-management circuits.
- Design large power transistors (bipolar and DMOS) and associated layouts for robustness.
- Develop and optimize switch-mode power topologies (buck, boost), including multi-phase and current-sharing designs.
- Validate, debug, and verify prototypes prior to production transfer.
- Manage program schedules to meet milestones and release targets.
- Collaborate with process, test, product, applications, and marketing teams to bring products from concept to production.
Requirements
Technical must-haves and desirable skills (degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements):
- Thorough understanding of integrated analog circuit design and mixed-signal techniques.
- Deep knowledge of bipolar, BiCMOS, and BCD process technologies and large-transistor design.
- Experience with switch-mode power conversion control methods and topology selection.
- Proficiency with Cadence tools for analog design and mixed-signal simulation.
- Experience with behavioral top-level modeling and mixed-signal verification methodologies.
- Experience with analog/digital interfaces and digital buses.
- Experience with gate-driver techniques and control-system concepts.
- Experience in validation and debugging of complex analog/power ICs and preparing designs for production.
- Experience with radiation-hardened power-management products is highly desirable.
- Strong self-motivation, adaptability, and ability to work cross-functionally.
Education Requirements
MSEE with 10+ years, PhD with 8+ years, or BSEE with 15+ years of relevant industry experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (experience in analog IC and power-management design emphasized).
