Principal DSP Engineer - TeraWave
Role Summary
Lead development of DSP, PHY and radio algorithms for Blue Origin's TeraWave satellite communications custom silicon. Work on end-to-end digital communication systems, from floating-point modeling to fixed-point, FPGA, and ASIC implementation and verification.
This role is onsite in one of the listed sites (Bay Area, CA; Austin, TX; or Kent, WA) with a temporary remote work exception while specific sites are being developed.
Experience Level
Senior β Principal level. Requires 10+ years of experience in signal processing or modem design and development.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and validate DSP and communication algorithms for silicon and system-level platforms. Collaborate across ASIC, RFIC, firmware, and software teams to bring algorithms into production.
- Develop packet processing, MAC, PHY, and radio DSP algorithms and models for custom silicon.
- Implement DSP/PHY algorithms in MATLAB, Python, and C/C++ and convert floating-point models to fixed-point, bit-accurate implementations.
- Optimize algorithms for low power and high performance; perform word-length analysis and fixed-point optimization for FPGA/ASIC targets.
- Target algorithms for FPGA and ASIC implementation and support pre-silicon verification and post-silicon validation.
- Design advanced digital end-to-end communication systems and channel impairment models.
- Bring up prototype pre-silicon platforms and correlate algorithm performance across system models, RTL/FPGA, and silicon.
- Work collaboratively with ASIC, RFIC, and software teams to integrate and validate solutions.

Must: Hands-on programming in MATLAB, Python, and C/C++ for DSP/communications algorithm development.

Must: Experience with floating-point and fixed-point modeling, bit-accurate implementation, and algorithm optimization.

Must: Experience with PHY, DSP, beamforming, RF and/or mixed-signal designs and knowledge of DSP and communications systems and filters.

Must: Experience with system-level modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, SystemC, C/C++).

Must: Ability to target algorithms to FPGA/ASIC and support pre-silicon verification and silicon bring-up.

Requirement: Must satisfy U.S. export-control eligibility: U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (green card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-have: Experience in full ASIC lifecycle, software-defined radio, ADC/DAC, multirate DSP, real-time embedded DSP implementation, hardware/software partitioning, pre-silicon verification, and mentoring junior engineers.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Preferred: advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
