Job Title
Principal Digital IP Design Engineer (f/m/d)
Role Summary
Design and deliver digital IP blocks for mixed-signal SoCs as part of the Advanced Chip Engineering Digital IP team in Munich. Work across hardware, software, architecture and system teams to define features, interfaces and integrate digital blocks to meet performance, area and power targets.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 10 years of IP or subsystem design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include digital IP development, verification, synthesis and cross-team integration:
- Develop RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) for digital IP and logic blocks according to architectural specifications and performance requirements.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, architecture and system engineering teams to define features and interfaces and integrate digital blocks.
- Perform design-quality checks (lint, CDC/RDC) using industry-standard tools.
- Carry out IP-level verification: basic testbench development, simulation and debugging; support pre-silicon and post-silicon validation (simulation, emulation, FPGA, silicon).
- Execute IP synthesis and basic timing analysis to meet timing, area and power targets.
- Ensure designs meet DFT requirements, generate documentation, and participate in design reviews.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design issues during the development lifecycle and stay current with industry tools and methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; degree requirements are summarized under Education Requirements.
- 10+ years of experience in IP or subsystem design.
- Strong understanding of microprocessor architecture, interconnects and cache-coherency mechanisms.
- Hands-on CPU design experience (proprietary cores, RISC-V, or AI/ML accelerators).
- Experience with AMBA protocols (AHB, AXI, ACE, CHI) and memory systems (ROM, RAM, Flash, DDR/LPDDR).
- Advanced Verilog, SystemVerilog and C/C++ skills.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Tcl or Shell.
- Experience debugging designs in pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
- Experience using AI-based tools to enhance development and design efficiency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent written and verbal English communication.
- Security-aware mindset; role may include security-related tasks and fall under security certification scopes.
- Nice-to-have: basic conversational German.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
