Job Title
Principal Digital Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior technical lead on the Data Center & Energy IVR Technology team, based in Munich. Lead digital RTL architecture and implementation for power-management ICs (PMICs) and mixed-signal SoCs, working closely with analog, layout, firmware and verification teams to deliver ultra-compact, efficient digital controllers.
Position requires occasional travel (~10%).
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10β12 years of digital design experience in silicon-proven ICs.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Define top-level requirements and specifications for digital functions and system architecture.
- Design, implement and integrate digital blocks: digital control loops (sync/async), state machines, multi-bus systems, embedded cores, clock trees, regulators, timing logic, self-calibration and trimming logic.
- Implement communication interfaces (PMBus, AVSbus, I2C/SPI, PCMI) and integrate them into SoC designs.
- Author synthesizable RTL focused on reliability, area and power efficiency.
- Integrate RTL and gate-level netlists into mixed-signal and design-verification simulation flows; collaborate with AMS/DV teams.
- Own synthesis, linting, CDC/STA checks and provide backend/P&R support when required.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and contribute to product and technology roadmaps.
Requirements
Required skills and experience:
- Extensive silicon-proven digital design experience (10+ years) with RTL design and finite state machines for embedded/mixed-signal applications. (Must-have)
- Experience with synthesis tools and flow setup (Synopsys, Cadence), RTL simulation, logic synthesis, timing constraints, static timing analysis (STA), back-annotation of parasitics, gate-level simulation, and equivalence checking. (Must-have)
- Strong debugging skills and familiarity with simulation tools such as Xcelium. (Must-have)
- Basic understanding of analog and full-custom circuit design. (Must-have)
- Experience with asynchronous digital design and/or embedded cores. (Nice-to-have)
Education Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
