Job Title
Principal Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead development, layout, and optimization of datapath and high-speed I/O circuits for next-generation NAND flash within Micron’s NVEG organization. Act as a technical leader driving architecture decisions, silicon validation, yield improvements, and mentoring engineering teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typically 10+ years of relevant IC design experience with deep, hands-on expertise in high-speed I/O, layout, and chip architecture.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Own design, verification, and delivery of major IO/datapath blocks (input receivers, serializers/deserializers, clock distribution, equalizers, ZQ calibration, ONFI training features, wave pipelines).
- Model layout parasitics and optimize signal quality, area, and power; lead layout reviews and implement optimizations.
- Define and negotiate block interfaces with integration and other design teams; make top-level architectural and floorplanning trade-offs.
- Partner with Product Engineering on silicon experiments, debugging, and proposing architectural fixes to improve yield and performance.
- Align design choices with Applications Engineering and customer/system requirements.
- Document methodologies, present results to expert reviews, and mentor less-experienced engineers.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills. "Must-have" items are listed first; "Preferred" items follow.
-
Must-have: Deep knowledge of high-speed IO circuit performance, power/area optimization, and chip-level architecture; proven experience with physical design flows, layout optimization, and parasitic extraction; demonstrated work on high-speed NAND interfaces and training/calibration features; strong project leadership and communication skills.
-
Preferred: Experience applying AI to improve design or layout automation; experience with DRAM interfaces (DDR4/5, LPDDR5/6, HBM), signal/power integrity (SI/PI) and PDN optimization; strong understanding of CMOS device physics, reliability, and BSIM modeling.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field. The posting specifies a BS or MS with relevant IC design experience (minimum experience guidance provided in Experience Level).
