Principal Cross-Functional Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Principal Cross-Functional Engineer
Role Summary
Senior analog/mixed-signal engineer in the Analog Mixed Signal Design team within Qualcomm's Engineering Group. Responsible for analog lab/calibration support for Gen7, PCIe L1ss power-up sequencing tradeoffs, and contributing to Gen8 clocking and high-speed SerDes-related activities.
Experience Level
Senior level - requires substantial industry experience (posting indicates 15+ years).
Responsibilities
Work across analog, digital, firmware, and validation teams to design, verify, and validate high-speed analog/mixed-signal subsystems.
- Develop and implement calibration algorithms for analog/mixed-signal blocks to optimize performance and yield.
- Perform analog verification and higher-level simulation to validate functionality, power, aging, and EMIR characteristics.
- Design or architect analog blocks as needed (PLLs, clocking, equalizers, transmitter/receiver elements) and collaborate with DSP/digital teams.
- Lead system verification activities involving register programming, initialization sequences, power-up calibration, and power-state transitions.
- Support silicon bring-up and correlate pre-silicon models with post-silicon measurements to improve models and debug issues.
- Estimate and model power for high-speed SerDes across data rates and power states; evaluate PCIe power-up sequences and package PI tradeoffs.
- Mentor engineers on analog behavioral modeling, mixed-signal verification techniques, calibration approaches, and power estimation.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required and preferred for successful performance in this role.
- Must-have: 15+ years industry experience in relevant roles (analog/mixed-signal design, modelling, verification, or silicon validation).
- Strong background in high-speed SerDes architecture, modeling, and verification (106 Gbps and higher).
- Experience with calibration algorithms and equalization techniques for SerDes.
- Practical experience in high-speed analog/mixed-signal design, modelling, analog or digital verification, or post-silicon measurements of complex wireline systems.
- Solid analog design fundamentals (ADC/DAC, clock generation/distribution, analog equalizers, transmitter drivers) and familiarity with mixed-signal calibrations.
- Experience with EDA/schematic and simulation tools; familiarity with Cadence, SPICE, AMS simulators, MATLAB, Verilog/VHDL.
- Proficiency in digital RTL (SystemVerilog), firmware (C), and digital verification tools and methodologies.
- Nice-to-have: scripting for automation (Python/Matlab), standards familiarity (PCIe, IEEE 802.3, OIF), and hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, TDR, VNA, and spectrum analyzers.
Education Requirements
Options listed in the posting: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (with additional specified experience: 2+ years analog/mixed-signal IC design in nanometer planar CMOS or FinFET plus 8+ years ASIC design/verification or related work experience); OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 8+ years ASIC design/verification or related experience; OR PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with 6+ years ASIC design/verification or related experience. The posting also references experience using design tools (e.g., Cadence, SPICE, MATLAB, Verilog/VHDL).
