Principal Communications Systems Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior engineer responsible for systems design and implementation of physical-layer (PHY) modem algorithms for low-power wireless products. The role is part of the Wireless Systems Group in Germany and works within a cross-functional global product team.
Expect to lead technical workstreams, coordinate with RF, digital, software and validation teams, and drive solutions from model to silicon bring-up.
Experience Level
Senior - minimum of 5 years of experience in design and implementation of wireless PHY systems.
Responsibilities
Design and implement PHY modem algorithms and support system integration through silicon bring-up and testing.
- Design, develop, and simulate communication systems and PHY-layer modem algorithms for wireless applications.
- Develop and validate system models, fixed-point models, and hardware-aware algorithm implementations.
- Translate product and system requirements into technical specifications for RF, digital, software, and validation teams.
- Collaborate with RF/Analog, Digital, Validation and Software teams for test-chip and SoC bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in digital block design and RFIP design regarding block specifications and controls.
- Provide technical leadership for modem and digital front-end (DFE) subsystems.
- Support IC production activities, RFIP calibration and testing; travel up to ~25%.
Requirements

- Minimum of 5 years' experience in design and implementation of wireless PHY systems.
- Technical leadership experience owning modem and DFE subsystems.
- Strong background in signal processing and communication theory.
- Experience with MATLAB, C/C++ and fixed-point / cycle-true programming and simulation.
- Experience in modem and digital front-end block design and IC design production support.
- Experience with RFIP calibration and testing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to produce engineering documentation; team player.
- Nice-to-have: Bluetooth, UWB and/or WiFi experience; team management skills.
Education Requirements
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
