Principal ASIC Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Senior technical lead responsible for ASIC/VLSI verification architecture, methodologies, and technical leadership across multiple projects within the Global Business Unit. The role leads verification strategy, design reviews, and cross-functional initiatives to ensure delivery of complex integrated circuit solutions.
Position is hybrid with an expectation of working about 2 days per week from the Durham, NC office.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of relevant ASIC/VLSI design and verification experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining and executing verification approaches and providing technical leadership.
- Define organization-wide VLSI/ASIC verification architectures, methodologies, and standards across products and teams.
- Lead technical reviews and evaluate designs for compliance with guidelines and quality targets.
- Provide technical leadership and accountability for multiple project teams; mentor and develop less-experienced engineers.
- Collaborate with executive leadership, outsourced partners, and standards groups to influence strategic technical decisions.
- Identify and evaluate emerging VLSI technologies and propose new projects and programs.
- Contribute to innovation activities, patents, publications, and technical presentations as appropriate.
Requirements
Key skills and experience required or strongly preferred.

Must-have: Deep expertise in VLSI principles, digital logic, ASIC design/verification, and computer architecture.

Must-have: Proven experience with hardware description languages and verification methodologies (e.g., SystemVerilog/Verilog, UVM) and EDA/FPGA toolchains.

Must-have: Proficiency in programming and scripting for verification (e.g., Python, C/C++) and automation.

Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated technical leadership on complex projects.

Nice-to-have: Record of innovation such as patents, publications, or technical presentations in VLSI or electronic/hardware design.

Other: Effective executive-level written and verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field β or equivalent practical experience. Job references coursework or experience in VLSI design/concepts.
