Principal ASIC Power Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for defining and executing chip-wide power strategy for Positron AI's AI inference accelerators. Partner with architecture, RTL, backend, and verification teams to model, analyze, and optimize dynamic, leakage, and peak power from early estimation through silicon validation.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 12+ years of ASIC design experience, with leadership in power strategy and production silicon delivery.

Responsibilities

Own power architecture and verification across the product lifecycle and drive cross-functional alignment and optimizations.

• Define chip power strategy covering dynamic, leakage, and peak power.
• Develop and maintain power models from architectural estimation to gate-level accuracy.
• Perform power analysis and validate estimates against real workload behavior.
• Implement power optimization techniques such as clock gating and voltage islands.
• Collaborate with backend on power integrity, IR drop, and power grid planning.
• Specify power domains and power-on sequencing.
• Lead power-aware simulation and verification, including UPF/CPF flows.
• Drive silicon power validation and post-silicon optimization efforts.
• Utilize AI-driven tools for power analysis and optimization.

• Must-have: 12+ years of ASIC design experience with deep low-power design expertise.
• Must-have: Hands-on experience with UPF/CPF power specification and verification flows.
• Must-have: Expert-level experience with power analysis tools (e.g. PrimePower, Joules) and advanced process nodes.
• Must-have: Strong RTL understanding and proven track record meeting aggressive power targets in production silicon.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with AI accelerator architectures and AI-driven power tools.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with LPDDR/HBM memory interfaces, PCIe, DVFS, and thermal modeling.
• Nice-to-have: Hands-on silicon power validation experience.
