Job Title
Principal ASIC Implementation Engineer
Role Summary
Lead development of scalable CAD reference flows for Interface IP at advanced nodes (5nm, 3nm, 2nm). Work with IP R&D, field engineers, and customers to enable first-pass silicon success and production-ready implementation methodologies.
Experience Level
Senior-level β typically 15+ years of hands-on experience in ASIC physical design or CAD flow development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include CAD flow development, technical support during tapeouts, and collaboration with R&D and field teams.
- Develop and deliver scalable CAD reference flows for Interface IP across 5nmβ2nm using Fusion Compiler, ICC2, Design Compiler, PrimeTime, ICV, and RedHawk.
- Collaborate with IP R&D to influence product roadmaps and validate tool features for improved PPA.
- Demonstrate power, performance, and area (PPA) results on standard protocol IP designs.
- Provide hands-on technical support to IP developers, field engineers, and customers during test-chip and tapeout events.
- Automate flow development and result analysis using Perl and Tcl to improve consistency and reduce manual work.
- Drive timing closure, IR drop and EM analysis, and physical sign-off for complex designs.
- Continuously refine methodologies to address process node shifts and EDA tool updates.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and demonstrable experience; nice-to-have items noted.
-
Must: 15+ years hands-on experience in ASIC physical design or CAD flow development with delivery on complex SoCs at advanced nodes.
-
Must: Deep expertise in floorplanning, synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, IR/EM analysis, and physical verification.
-
Must: Production experience with Synopsys EDA tools: Design Compiler, PrimeTime, ICC2, Fusion Compiler, ICV, and RedHawk.
-
Must: Proven track record developing CAD flows or methodologies adopted across multiple projects or product lines.
-
Must: Proficiency in Perl and Tcl for automation, flow integration, and analysis.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with Interface IP protocols such as PCIe, DDR, USB, or other high-speed standards.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience; equivalent practical experience is explicitly accepted.
