Job Title
Principal ASIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver complex RTL modules and subsystems for high-performance networking ASICs. Lead micro‑architecture, specification, RTL implementation, power/performance optimization, timing closure and handoff to physical design and verification teams.
Provide technical leadership on cross-functional projects and mentor junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 15+ years of relevant ASIC/RTL design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Architect complex modules and subsystems and produce detailed functional and micro‑architecture specifications meeting power/area/performance targets.
- Implement synthesizable RTL using Verilog/SystemVerilog and drive to final netlist.
- Develop functional coverage and SVA to enable thorough verification and catch corner cases.
- Apply power‑reduction techniques during architecture and implementation to meet power targets.
- Collaborate with physical design for timing closure; diagnose and fix RTL timing issues to meet frequency targets.
- Work closely with verification to validate blocks and resolve issues found in simulation and silicon bring‑up.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor new college-grads, junior engineers, and interns.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven track record delivering high‑performance subsystems from specification through final netlist.
- Expert proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog and design-for-synthesis practices.
- Experience writing functional coverage and SVA assertions.
- Familiarity with synthesis, lint, static timing analysis and other ASIC development tools.
- Hands‑on experience with power‑reduction techniques and timing‑closure strategies.
- Strong analytical/problem‑solving skills and effective written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of computer architecture and networking protocols (strongly desired).
- Scripting experience (Perl/Python) is strongly desired.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required; Master’s degree is strongly desired. Degrees in related electrical/computer engineering fields are implied.
