Principal Applications Engineering Consultant — FPGA Prototyping

Role Summary

Lead customer-facing FPGA prototyping evaluations and complex prototyping projects, driving technical delivery and integration across hardware and software environments.

Work within Applications Engineering and partner with Sales, Marketing, and R&D to align customer needs with product capabilities; mentor junior engineers.

Experience Level

Senior — 10+ years of experience in FPGA prototyping or related fields.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer technical leadership, advanced FPGA implementation, and cross-team collaboration.

  • Execute FPGA prototyping tasks: design bring-up, partitioning, synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and debug.
  • Collaborate with customers and Application Engineering to define requirements and optimize prototyping and CAD workflows.
  • Support deployment and integration of FPGA prototype systems across hardware and software environments.
  • Develop and apply data exchange and interoperability methods across tools and platforms.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, demonstrations, and documentation for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and operate independently on complex engagements.
  • Serve as a technical interface to customer engineers and managers and communicate complex technical issues clearly.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in FPGA prototyping or related fields.
  • Extensive knowledge of VLSI and digital design.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of large design partitioning and routing across multiple FPGAs.
  • Experience interfacing with low- and high-speed peripherals.
  • Experience deploying and integrating prototype systems across mixed hardware/software environments.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly and influence product direction.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer or Electronics Engineering.
