Principal Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Senior applications engineer responsible for enabling customer design-in and adoption of Renesas high-voltage (650V/700V) GaN power devices and power conversion solutions across industrial, infrastructure, server, UPS, solar, and EV power applications in Taiwan.
Work closely with customers, product engineering, FAEs, sales and product marketing to develop reference designs, validate products, and resolve field issues.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 8–12 years of experience in power electronics and power conversion applications.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical support, reference design development, validation, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Support customer design-in activities for high-voltage GaN products; review schematics, PCB layouts, and power architectures.
- Provide application-level support for AC-DC supplies, totem-pole PFC, LLC converters, DC-DC converters, UPS, solar inverters, and server/industrial power systems.
- Design, build, and validate evaluation boards and reference designs; perform efficiency, thermal, EMI, and performance optimization.
- Execute product validation plans; characterize switching performance, thermal behavior, gate driving, and system-level performance.
- Troubleshoot customer and field issues; perform root-cause analysis and recommend design optimizations.
- Deliver customer demonstrations, training, and technical presentations; develop application notes, design guides, and evaluation reports.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering, R&D, FAEs, Product Marketing, and Sales to provide customer feedback and influence roadmap.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- 8–12 years of hands-on experience in power electronics and power conversion systems.
- Practical experience with high-voltage GaN devices or equivalent experience in high-frequency switching power systems.
- Experience with AC-DC conversion, PFC, LLC, and DC-DC converter topologies.
- Experience in server power supplies, UPS, solar inverters, EV charging, or industrial power supplies.
- Hands-on testing and measurement experience: efficiency, thermal, EMI characterization and optimization.
- Strong customer-facing skills; able to troubleshoot at system and component level and communicate technical recommendations clearly.
- Fluent English communication skills required.
- Preferred: experience with SiC power systems and large-scale power applications.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field required. Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in relevant subjects are preferred.
