Principal Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the Security Computer Group (SCG) Applications Engineering team supporting microprocessor-based products for tablets, desktops, notebooks, and embedded systems. Works with engineering teams in Taipei and Hauppauge and with architects, designers, validation engineers, marketing, sales, and FAEs.
Responsible for developing evaluation firmware/hardware, validating device functionality, documenting solutions, and supporting customer deployments and internal teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. Requires approximately 10 years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing firmware, supporting customers, and creating evaluation platforms and documentation.
- Develop low-level MCU firmware modules, real-time kernel components, and host utilities (C/C++).
- Design, review, and support customer-facing evaluation boards (schematics, layout input, fabrication support).
- Create technical documentation: application notes, design guides, and user manuals.
- Build demos and proof-of-concept platforms to support sales and marketing efforts.
- Train and support FAEs and customers on product features and integration.
- Troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues and support customer deployments.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and behaviors for successful performance in this role.
- Proficiency in C and/or C++ for embedded systems.
- Strong understanding of embedded microprocessor design and internal architecture.
- Knowledge of PC hardware architecture, I/O subsystems, address decoding, programmable peripheral ICs, and keyboard controllers.
- Experience developing and debugging embedded microcontroller firmware; strong hardware/software integration skills.
- Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related equipment.
- Familiarity with Zephyr RTOS and with cryptography concepts.
- Ability to interpret and apply industry specifications such as eSPI, LPC, QSPI, I2C/SMBus, I3C, USB, MCTP, PECI, PCI, CAN, and cryptographic security functions.
- Self-motivated, project-oriented, strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills; ability to work in cross-functional and global teams.
- Willingness to travel as required to support customers and projects (0%β25% typical).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Language/certification expectations: fluent Japanese (JLPT N1 or equivalent) and strong English proficiency (e.g., TOEIC 750 or higher).
