Job Title

Principal Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Senior applications engineer in the Hardware and Test organization responsible for driving Design-for-Test (DFT) deployments, resolving integration and sign-off issues, and improving field-to-product feedback loops for Synopsys test products.

You will work with R&D, Product, and Field teams to influence technical priorities, define best practices, and support customers through critical tape-out milestones.

Experience Level

Senior. The posting specifies Bachelor's degree holders with 10+ years or Master's degree holders with 8+ years of relevant experience; equivalent practical experience is accepted.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of customer deployments, methodology definition, and coordinating cross-functional resolution of test issues.

  • Lead technical resolution of test technology deployments and integration issues with R&D, Product, and Field teams.
  • Influence technical requirements and priorities for test compression, scan implementation integration, and test vector generation.
  • Define and maintain design-test methodology reviews, signoff checklists, and engagement models for field support.
  • Drive AI-enabled flow initiatives and improve integration and debug workflows using TestMAX DFT, TestMAX ATPG, and TestMAX Manager or equivalents.
  • Provide trend analysis and field feedback to R&D and Product to improve tool quality, documentation, and enablement.
  • Support creation of tester-ready ATPG vectors, integration into synthesis flows, and tape-out handoff activities.
  • Manage escalations, build technical plans, and communicate status and risks to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience follow; nice-to-have items are listed after.

  • Hands-on DFT experience for SoC and ASIC development with customer-facing applications engineering background.
  • Deep expertise in ATPG, DFT, BIST, and logic test methodologies; practical experience with TestMAX DFT, TestMAX ATPG, and TestMAX Manager or equivalent tools.
  • Proven experience integrating DFT into synthesis flows and producing tester-ready ATPG vectors with signoff results.
  • Strong execution skills: planning, risk management, leading escalations, and clear communication with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze trends from field issues and convert feedback into product and process improvements.
  • Comfort supporting multiple programs with rigor and urgency; occasional travel to support critical customer engagements.
  • Nice-to-have: prior experience supporting customers through critical tape-out schedules in competitive accounts; experience driving AI/automation initiatives in test workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (with 10+ years of experience), or Master's degree in those fields (with 8+ years), or equivalent practical experience. Fields referenced: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering. No certifications were specified.
