Principal Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Provide expert application engineering support for Synopsys Interface IP, helping customers integrate high-speed protocols into SoC designs from integration through silicon bring-up and production. The role is customer-facing and works closely with internal product and engineering teams to diagnose system issues and deliver tailored solutions.
Primary focus areas include IP usage/configuration, integration challenges, debugging, and enabling successful tape-out and production deployment.
Experience Level
Senior - requires at least 10 years of design, verification, or application engineering experience.
Responsibilities
You will act as a technical lead for customer engagements and internal enablement.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on Interface IP usage, configuration, and integration strategies.
- Assess feature requirements and help integrate IP into complex system ecosystems.
- Support silicon and system bring-up; debug critical issues with customers and partners.
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver customer-specific solutions and escalate product issues.
- Track and apply industry specifications and market trends relevant to high-speed interfaces.
- Provide occasional on-site support and travel for customer engagements and bring-up activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills; concise list of required and desirable capabilities.
- Must-have: Minimum 10 years of relevant design, verification, or application engineering experience.
- Must-have: Proficiency in RTL coding (Verilog and/or VHDL).
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with simulation, synthesis, and static timing analysis (STA).
- Must-have: Practical experience with high-speed protocols such as Ethernet or PCIe.
- Must-have: Comfortable working in UNIX environments and familiar with ASIC/SoC tape-out processes.
- Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer-facing engineering support.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience or familiarity with CDC, RDC, linting tools, DFT, and LEC.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field with a focus on VLSI design.
