Job Title

Principal Application Engineer

Role Summary

The Principal Application Engineer will support customers integrating high-speed Interface IP into complex SoC/ASIC designs and assist through silicon and system bring-up. The role partners with R&D, product, and field teams to resolve integration, implementation, and debug challenges across the design flow.

Experience Level

Senior-level; typically requires 10+ years of industry experience in VLSI design, application engineering, or verification.

Responsibilities

Provide hands-on technical support to customers across IP integration, implementation, and bring-up phases.

  • Support Interface IP integration across the SoC design flow and address customer integration issues.
  • Provide technical guidance for implementation, integration, and on-silicon debug.
  • Participate in technical reviews and milestone checkpoints to identify and resolve risks early.
  • Support silicon and system bring-up, including hands-on root-cause analysis and debug.
  • Collaborate with R&D, product, and field teams to deliver solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Stay current with industry standards and protocol requirements for Ethernet, DDR, PCIe, and similar interfaces.
  • Occasional travel for on-site technical collaboration and bring-up activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience to perform the role effectively; plus a few desirable areas.

  • Proven experience in design, verification, or application engineering for ASIC/SoC projects.
  • Proficiency in RTL coding (Verilog and/or VHDL).
  • Hands-on experience with simulation, synthesis, and static timing analysis (STA).
  • Experience with high-speed interface protocols such as Ethernet, DDR, and PCIe.
  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux development environments and tape-out processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and clear communication with customers and teams.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for customer support and bring-up.
  • Nice-to-have: knowledge of CDC, RDC, lint tools, DFT, LEC, and related verification flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's (BSEE/BSCE) or Master's (MSEE/MSCE) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience. The role typically expects 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
