Job Title

Principal Analog Sustaining Engineer

Role Summary

Lead technical investigations and resolution of field failures and customer-reported issues for automotive PMIC products. Operate at the intersection of silicon behavior, system-level debugging, and customer interaction to drive root cause analysis from RMA intake to closure.

Work closely with customer application teams, failure-analysis labs, and cross-functional design, test, and quality groups to deliver data-driven fixes, workarounds, and documentation.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires 12–15+ years of IC design experience with emphasis on debug, failure analysis, or sustaining engineering.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end technical investigations and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Review RMA documentation and reproduce reported issues using simulation and hardware debug setups.
  • Collect and analyze waveforms; run analog simulations and review RTL/netlist to identify failure mechanisms.
  • Coordinate debugging efforts with customer application teams and provide regular technical status updates.
  • Initiate and interpret failure analysis (FA) lab work and plan subsequent actions toward root cause.
  • Produce customer-facing technical deliverables: presentations, 8D reports, RCA reports, and structured debug documentation.
  • Propose silicon fixes and system-level workarounds; define validation strategies and assess feasibility with stakeholders.
  • Lead technical handoffs and formal case closure; disseminate lessons learned across design teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement of product quality through cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role effectively.

  • Extensive experience diagnosing complex silicon and system-level failures in mixed-signal PMIC environments.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit behavior and waveform analysis.
  • Hands-on use of industry EDA and debug tools (examples: Synopsys, Cadence), oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and simulation environments.
  • Practical experience with FA lab processes and failure analysis techniques (SEM, FIB, emission microscopy) and interpreting physical FA results.
  • Familiarity with Verilog, Verilog-AMS, or scripting for debug automation and simulation support.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills for customer-facing technical presentations and reports.
  • Structured problem-solving approach, attention to detail, and ability to drive investigations independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with 8D methodology and structured debug/reporting processes.
  • Nice-to-have: demonstrated recognition for analog design expertise and experience leading technical training or knowledge-sharing forums.

Education Requirements

BSEE or MSEE (Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering).
