Principal Analog IC Design Engineer
QorvoJob Title
Principal Analog IC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead architecture, design, and validation of high-performance analog power management integrated circuits (PMICs, DC-DC converters, motor and battery management) for mobile, consumer, IoT, and industrial applications. Work on transistor-level design, collaborate with layout, test, system engineering, and global design teams to deliver production-ready silicon.
This is a hybrid role with expectations to be onsite multiple days per week at the San Jose, CA or Richardson, TX office.
Experience Level
Senior / Professional. The role expects 12+ years of engineering experience and at least 8+ years focused on analog and mixed-signal IC design for power-management architectures.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include end-to-end analog power IC development and cross-functional collaboration:
- Lead design and development of high-performance analog power management ICs, targeting efficiency, power density, and reliability.
- Define product architecture and specifications with system engineers, balancing performance, power, and cost.
- Select and implement circuit topologies that ensure robustness, yield, and manufacturability.
- Perform transistor-level design, simulation, and validation to meet functional and performance targets.
- Collaborate with layout engineers to optimize floorplanning, parasitics, and silicon performance.
- Work with global design teams and stakeholders to align development strategies and schedules.
- Partner with test and characterization teams to define validation methods, resolve issues, and optimize production tests.
- Prepare and present technical reviews, documentation, and trade-off analyses for internal stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Preferred items are listed separately.
- Minimum 12+ years of engineering experience in the semiconductor industry (12+ years total experience required).
- At least 8+ years of analog and mixed-signal IC design experience focused on DC-DC power converter architectures and control methodologies (voltage-mode and current-mode control).
- Experience with transistor-level simulation and verification; familiarity with parasitic extraction and floating-node issues.
- Experience with EMIR/capacitive coupling analysis and parasitic extraction flows and tools.
- Track record of production release of power management ICs and supporting ramp to manufacturing.
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences and demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional execution.
- Preferred (nice-to-have): experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Simplis, ADS, and hands-on lab support for high-frequency switching power supplies.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. The posting allows equivalent combinations of education and experience. Preferred: Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
