Principal Analog Design Engineer
Analog DevicesJob Title
Principal Analog Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead analog and mixed-signal IC design for power DC-DC converter controllers within the Data Center & Energy business unit. Own technical delivery across architecture, circuit design, verification, silicon bring-up, and production ramp.
Work as part of a cross-functional engineering team (digital, layout, test, applications) to deliver robust production products. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are available; travel ~10%.
Experience Level
Senior (Principal). Typical candidate: 12+ years of relevant analog IC design experience, with demonstrated technical leadership of multiple IC projects from concept through tape-out.
Responsibilities
Accountable for technical execution and leadership across multiple power-controller IC projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Define converter architectures and design critical analog blocks: control loops, gate drivers, current sensing, protection, and power-management functions.
- Provide circuit-level design, optimization for stability, transient response, efficiency, accuracy, noise, and PVT robustness.
- Lead system and transistor-level design reviews; establish specifications, simulation plans, margins, and sign-off criteria.
- Coordinate project priorities, schedules, risks, and cross-team dependencies to deliver production-ready ICs.
- Guide schematic design, behavioral modeling, mixed-signal integration, and verification of analog-digital interfaces.
- Collaborate with layout engineers on matching, parasitics, isolation, routing, electromigration, ESD, and latch-up mitigation.
- Direct silicon bring-up, laboratory characterization, correlate measurements to simulations, and resolve design issues.
- Work with product, applications, and test teams to translate customer/system requirements and support production test and field debug.
- Lead technical communication to stakeholders and senior management; mentor and develop analog design team capability.
Requirements
Core technical requirements and skills. Must-have items listed first; preferred skills after.
- Must-have: 12+ years of hands-on analog IC design experience, with proven leadership of multiple ICs from concept through tape-out and lab validation.
- Deep transistor-level analog circuit design expertise and experience with power DC-DC converter architectures and control loops.
- Experience with high-voltage analog circuit design and solid foundation in semiconductor physics.
- Expertise in precision analog blocks: current sensing, gate drivers, fault protection, and digitally configurable power systems.
- Strong analog simulation skills, including stability analysis, PVT and mismatch verification, layout-aware design, and mixed-signal simulations.
- Familiarity with IC reliability, ESD/latch-up prevention, electromigration, and production test considerations.
- Proficiency with Cadence analog design tools and SPICE; experience with mixed-signal design and verification flows.
- System-level analysis experience using tools such as SIMPLIS, MATLAB/Simulink, or Mathcad.
- Ability to communicate technical trade-offs, project status, and risks effectively to engineers and management.
- Nice-to-have: behavioral modeling (e.g., SystemVerilog), experience delivering multiphase buck or high-performance DC-DC controllers into production, and experience developing reusable analog IP and methodologies.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent practical experience. Typical role expectation includes 12+ years of relevant analog IC design experience. Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field is preferred but not mandatory.
