Pre-Silicon IP System Validation Intern

Role Summary

Assist the pre-silicon IP system validation team to validate soft IPs and subsystems using FPGA-based prototyping and emulation platforms. Work involves executing functional tests on RTL, bringing up validation environments, first-line debug, and documenting findings to support silicon readiness.

This position is eligible for Intel's hybrid work model (split on-site and off-site time).

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Open to final-year or 3rd-year tertiary students; prior industry experience is not required.

Responsibilities

Support validation activities and help ensure IP/subsystem functionality before silicon tape-out.

  • Execute functional tests on IP RTL and subsystems.
  • Bring up and maintain validation environments, including FPGA-based prototyping and emulation hardware.
  • Troubleshoot failures and perform first-line debugging to help identify root cause.
  • Document test procedures, results, learnings, and failure reports.
  • Collaborate with design, firmware, and system teams to reproduce and isolate issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical competencies and personal attributes for the internship.

  • Knowledge of computer system architecture.
  • Understanding of HW/SW stacks, including onboard hardware components, connectors, adapters, device drivers, and applications.
  • Programming experience in Python and C (or C-family languages) for test automation and debugging.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail for failure analysis.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills; motivated and curious.
  • Ability to work on-site in Penang as part of a hybrid schedule.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with FPGA-based prototyping, emulation platforms, or hardware bring-up.
  • Experience with RTL-level testing or prior exposure to pre-silicon validation concepts.

Education Requirements

Open to final-year or 3rd-year tertiary students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Microelectronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
