Power Modelling Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Staff-level engineering role focused on front-end power modeling, estimation and analysis for Qualcomm DSP processor IP. The role works with global DSP architecture, implementation, backend and post-silicon teams to verify and correlate performance and power across cores and chipsets.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 8β12 years of relevant experience in processor/ASIC power modelling, power estimation and analysis.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include driving power/performance verification and building tools and tests to measure and predict processor power and performance.
- Drive performance verification and correlation of DSP IP with architecture, implementation, post-silicon and backend teams.
- Analyze power and performance efficiency across cores and chipsets.
- Design and build infrastructure for performance verification and power modeling.
- Develop power models and estimate power for AI/ML and application workloads.
- Write targeted tests to measure processor power and performance.
- Diagnose and triage performance issues in RTL and simulators.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; nice-to-have items follow.
- Must-have: Extensive experience in processor/ASIC power modelling, power estimation and analysis (8+ years typical).
- Must-have: Experience in micro-architecture testing and application-level power/performance analysis for modern high-performance, low-power processors.
- Must-have: Programming and scripting: C, C++, Perl, Python, Shell, Makefile.
- Must-have: Strong background in digital design, RTL, processor architecture, troubleshooting and debug.
- Must-have: Experience building test infrastructure for power and performance measurement.
- Nice-to-have: Prior experience with performance correlation of processor subsystems (ARM/DSP) and working with backend/post-silicon teams.
- Nice-to-have: Experience estimating power for AI/ML workloads.
- Other: Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field plus 4+ years relevant experience; OR Master's degree plus 3+ years; OR PhD plus 2+ years. Equivalent practical experience considered.
