Job Title
Power IC Design Engineer
Role Summary
The Staff Power IC Design Engineer will develop and deliver high-performance power-management circuit blocks for mixed-signal integrated circuits, working from schematic through silicon validation. The role partners with global design teams and process engineers to support next-generation power technologies.
Experience Level
Senior-level: typically expects 7+ years of power IC design experience (staff/experienced engineer level).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include detailed transistor-level design, verification, and silicon bring-up of power-management circuits.
- Design and implement power-management blocks: DC-DC converters (buck, boost, buck-boost), LDOs, charge pumps, gate drivers, power stages, and protection circuits.
- Execute designs from schematic capture through simulation, layout oversight, post-layout verification, and tape-out support.
- Perform parasitic-aware simulation, process/operating-condition centering, and Monte Carlo analysis for yield and robustness.
- Optimize transient response, loop bandwidth, and load regulation via iterative simulation and bench correlation.
- Support silicon bring-up, debug measured vs. simulated results, and resolve production issues.
- Collaborate on architecture trade-offs across efficiency, area, EMI, reliability, and cost.
- Apply AI/ML techniques to improve design automation, optimization, and modeling workflows.
- Contribute to evaluation of new process capabilities and cross-team design reviews.
Requirements
Must-have technical capabilities and working skills.
- Strong transistor-level design skills for high-performance power-management circuits.
- Proven track record delivering power ICs through tape-out, silicon validation, and production release.
- Solid understanding of BCD, HV-CMOS, and power FET process technologies, including device physics and safe operating-area constraints.
- Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre/APS or equivalent IC design and power-stage simulation tools.
- Experience with control-loop design, compensation techniques, and stability analysis for switching and linear regulators.
- Experience in efficiency optimization, loss analysis, thermal management, and reliability assessment (electromigration, HCI, high-voltage stress).
- Fluent in Mandarin and strong English written and verbal communication skills for cross-site collaboration.
- Willingness and ability to travel for collaboration and silicon bring-up (approximately 10%).
Education Requirements
Preferred: M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years of power IC design experience, or Ph.D. with 5+ years. B.S. in Electrical Engineering considered if candidate demonstrates equivalent depth of experience. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
