Job Title
Power Delivery Engineer
Role Summary
As a Power Delivery Design Engineer on the Silicon and Platform Engineering Group, you will design, analyze, and validate power delivery solutions for Intel platforms from concept through implementation. You will collaborate with silicon and platform architects to ensure power systems meet performance, energy-efficiency, and integration requirements.
Experience Level
Senior — the role expects experienced engineers (typically 7+ years with a Master’s or 10+ years with a Bachelor’s; PhD holders may qualify without prior industry experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, design, validation, and lab debug of platform power delivery systems.
- Develop end-to-end power delivery designs to meet platform requirements.
- Define and analyze power delivery networks using 2D/3D extraction, noise analysis, and simulation tools.
- Design and validate power conversion and management solutions, including decoupling, power sequencing, and PCB/package optimization.
- Specify and validate voltage regulator requirements; create test benches, test plans, and RTL models for emulation.
- Characterize and optimize DC‑DC converters, compensation circuits, stability, and drop/droop behavior.
- Debug and validate systems using high-speed oscilloscopes, electronic loads, logic analyzers, and related lab equipment.
- Collaborate with architects and engineers and produce content for platform design guides.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical lab experience; preferred items noted.
- Proficiency in power delivery modeling, analysis, and optimization techniques.
- Experience with PCB schematic capture and layout tools (examples: Cadence Allegro, Sigrity).
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, electronic loads, logic analyzers, and debugging tools.
- Strong knowledge of power converters, compensation circuits, stability analysis, and PD/PI validation.
- Design experience across DC‑DC converter topologies and familiarity with active and passive PD components.
- Experience preparing power trees/maps, performing drop/droop analysis, and estimating area and cost for tradeoffs.
- Knowledge of energy and power management for battery-operated systems and USB Type-C Power Delivery.
- Preferred: experience with IA/PMIC-based designs, voltage regulator simulations, IMVP designs, and tools such as Concept HDL.
- Ability to lead programs independently and communicate technical results clearly.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (typically combined with ~10+ years' relevant experience); or Master's degree in a related field (typically with ~7+ years' relevant experience); or PhD in a related field (may qualify with no prior industry experience). Related technical degrees are acceptable.
