Job Title
Power and Performance Engineer, PAI Platforms and Performance Analysis
Role Summary
Hands-on engineering role within the Platforms and Performance Analysis team focused on power and performance profiling of SoC platforms for PAI products in robotics and automotive. The role covers pre- and post-silicon profiling, TDP definition, workload automation, methodology development, and producing technical recommendations for architecture and product teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Specific years of experience not stated; role expects demonstrated practical experience in power and performance analysis.
Responsibilities
Key day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Perform power and performance profiling of SoC platforms across CPU, GPU, NPU/AI accelerators, memory, interconnect, and full-system workloads.
- Run benchmarks and real-world workloads on Linux-based devices, development boards, reference platforms, and pre/post-silicon environments.
- Develop and maintain automation harnesses for workload execution, profiling, telemetry, power measurement, and result analysis.
- Drive pre-silicon PnP methodology: workload selection, benchmark definition, estimation, and correlation planning.
- Support post-silicon PnP analysis: platform characterisation, bottleneck analysis, and power/performance trade-off analysis.
- Define TDP methodology linking workloads, sustained performance, peak power, thermal constraints, and product segments.
- Define power and performance requirements for products targeting robotics and automotive markets.
- Produce clear technical reports and recommendations for architecture, product, software, systems, and platform teams.
Requirements
Required technical skills and experience; candidates should meet the must-have items and preferably several nice-to-have items.
Must-have:
- Demonstrable experience in pre-silicon or post-silicon power and performance analysis of SoC platforms.
- Experience across heterogeneous compute (CPU, GPU, NPU, memory, interconnect) and full-system profiling.
- Hands-on experience running workloads on Linux-based devices, embedded platforms, development boards, or pre/post-silicon environments.
- Experience using or developing automation harnesses for workload execution, data collection, profiling, and analysis.
- Understanding of power, thermal, and performance trade-offs in complex SoCs and experience with profiling tools, performance counters, system traces, telemetry, or power measurement equipment.
- Strong scripting and data-analysis skills (for example Python or shell scripting) and ability to translate workload behaviour into measurable engineering requirements.
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs to engineering, architecture, and product collaborators.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with embedded robotics development platforms, automotive or robotics systems, edge AI or heterogeneous compute platforms.
- Experience in platform performance analysis, silicon validation, performance modelling, simulators, emulation, FPGA, or virtual platforms.
- Familiarity with AI/ML workloads, vision pipelines, perception/planning workloads, or automotive ADAS workloads.
- Experience defining TDP, sustained performance targets, thermal constraints, or power envelope methodologies.
- Knowledge of Arm architecture, Arm-based SoC platforms, Linux performance tools, and embedded software ecosystems.
- Experience with tools such as perf, ftrace, trace-cmd, sysfs/procfs, vendor telemetry tools, power analysers, benchmark automation, lab infrastructure, or remote device farms.
Education Requirements
Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience.
