Job Title
Power and Performance Architect
Role Summary
Define and optimize system-level power and performance targets for client and server platforms. Work with IP, SoC, platform, and software teams to create workload-driven models, projections, and recommendations that influence product roadmaps and architecture tradeoffs.
Position sits within a silicon and platform engineering organization and requires cross-functional collaboration with architecture, design, post-silicon, platform, and business teams. Hybrid role based in Hillsboro, OR.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting specifies 4+ years of relevant experience in system, SoC, or architectural roles.
Responsibilities
The role owns system-level power and performance modeling, targets, tools, and analyses to guide design and product decisions.
- Drive system-level power and performance projections using representative workload models and workload characterization.
- Develop and maintain long-term power and performance models for CPU, GPU, memory IPs, and full SoC to support pathfinding and comparative analysis.
- Define power and performance targets and drive execution across development phases from pathfinding to silicon.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance modeling tools, flows, and methodologies for fast iteration and sensitivity analysis.
- Identify technology and market trends, risks, and opportunities that affect competitiveness and workload characteristics.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to architecture, planning, marketing, and executive leadership to inform roadmap and product decisions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with architecture, design, post-silicon, platform, and business teams to ensure system-level goals are met.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills; preferred items listed separately.
-
Must-have: 4+ years of relevant experience in system, SoC, or architectural roles (experience-level noted above).
-
Must-have: Advanced understanding of SoC behavior and power/performance modeling across compute, memory hierarchy, and interconnects.
-
Must-have: Experience in workload modeling, workload characterization, or workload abstraction.
-
Must-have: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to modeling assumptions and data quality, and excellent communication/presentation skills for senior audiences.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with Python or scripting to build analysis tools and modeling frameworks.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with RTL, structural design, validation, post-silicon measurement and correlation to models.
-
Nice-to-have: Background in high-performance computing, graphics, or AI accelerator workloads; semiconductor physics and process technology knowledge.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives, competitive analysis, and long-term roadmap planning.
Education Requirements
Degree expected: B.Sc., M.Sc., or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. The posting allows these degrees and implies they may be supplemented by equivalent practical experience.
