Post-Silicon Validation, Senior Staff Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Post-Silicon Validation, Senior Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Lead post-silicon electrical validation and characterization for die-to-die interface IP (UCIe-focused), driving test plan definition through silicon sign-off. The role combines lab debug, instrumentation, and software/tooling development to ensure IP reliability and customer deliverability.
Experience Level
Senior-level engineering role (staff-level), expected to lead complex technical efforts, mentor other engineers, and represent the team to customers and partners.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of validation strategy, lab automation, and customer-facing debug and characterization.
- Define and own post-silicon electrical validation and characterization strategy for die-to-die interface IP through silicon sign-off.
- Architect and develop lab automation, data capture, result processing, and silicon debug software (Python, C, C++), including instrument control and automated test execution frameworks.
- Lead cross-discipline debug spanning circuit design, package/interposer channels, firmware link training, and protocol interactions to drive to root cause.
- Support customer silicon bring-up and debug on-site and remotely, including link training, lane repair/reversal, degraded modes, and interoperability testing.
- Develop characterization methods where probe access is limited, using on-die instrumentation, eye margining, built-in monitors, oscilloscopes, BERTs, and spectrum/analyzers.
- Create data presentation tools and UIs for customer evaluations, demos, and internal reporting.
- Review and approve validation work, provide technical mentorship, and establish team measurement and correlation methodology.
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements. Degree and years are listed separately under Education Requirements.
- Extensive hands-on post-silicon validation, characterization, and debug of high-speed mixed-signal interface IP; UCIe experience strongly preferred; high-speed SerDes experience applicable.
- Working knowledge of UCIe PHY and D2D adapter layers, link initialization/training, sideband operation, and package considerations.
- Advanced software development skills in Python, C, and C++; experience building frameworks for lab automation, instrument control, and data processing.
- Proven ability to architect reliable software projects and automation frameworks used by other engineers.
- Expert-level use of oscilloscopes, BERTs, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers; ability to extract signal integrity and protocol insights from noisy lab data.
- Experience working in customer labs and communicating debug findings to external engineering teams.
- Familiarity with software version control and issue tracking systems is a plus.
- Nice-to-have: Signals & Systems concepts, transmission line theory, and high-speed link analysis applied to package/interposer channels.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years of related experience (as stated in the posting).
