Post-Silicon Validation, Principal Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Post-Silicon Validation, Principal Engineer
Role Summary
Lead post-silicon validation and characterization for UCIe die-to-die interface IP, define sign-off criteria, and own the silicon readiness decision. The role spans methodology, lab bring-up, debugging, and validation software architecture.
You will work across analog, digital, firmware, packaging, and system integration domains and act as the technical escalation point for customer silicon issues.
Experience Level
Senior / Principal level. Typical requirement: Bachelor's degree +10 years relevant experience, or advanced degree +8 years (see Education Requirements for details).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include setting validation strategy, debugging hard silicon failures, and owning validation tooling and data infrastructure.
- Define post-silicon validation and characterization strategy, coverage models, and sign-off criteria for UCIe die-to-die IP.
- Serve as final technical escalation for silicon issues requiring cross-domain root-cause analysis (analog, protocol, package, firmware, system).
- Lead customer silicon bring-up and debug, working remotely and on-site in customer labs to resolve link training, lane repair/reversal, degraded mode, and interoperability issues.
- Own architecture and direction of the validation software platform (Python), including lab automation, data infrastructure, and measurement correlation engines.
- Establish approaches for characterizing die-to-die links when direct probe access is limited, using on-die instrumentation, eye margining, and correlation to bench/simulation data.
- Drive cross-functional validation programs, coordinating across analog/digital design, firmware, product engineering, and applications to reach silicon readiness milestones.
- Represent the company in technical customer engagements and industry/standards forums as appropriate.
Requirements
Key technical and practical skills required to perform the role. Degree and years-of-experience details are in the Education Requirements section below.
- Must have: Extensive post-silicon validation, characterization, and debug experience for high-speed mixed-signal interface IP across multiple generations and process nodes.
- Must have: Deep knowledge of UCIe behavior (PHY and adapter layers), link initialization/training, sideband operation, lane repair/reversal, and packaging tradeoffs; strong SerDes/high-speed interface experience applicable.
- Must have: Expertise in high-speed link analysis: equalization, jitter decomposition, crosstalk, transmission line theory, and package/interposer/channel effects.
- Must have: Advanced software architecture experience, especially in Python, building lab automation frameworks, data infrastructure, and measurement correlation systems.
- Must have: Expert-level practical skills with high-speed test instruments (oscilloscopes, BERTs, spectrum/network analyzers) and an ability to validate links that cannot be directly probed.
- Must have: Demonstrated success leading customer silicon bring-up and owning technical relationships in customer lab environments.
- Nice to have: Experience with software version control (e.g., GitLab) and issue/task tracking tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of related experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of related experience. Fields referenced: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering. No certifications were specified.
