Job Title

Post-silicon Validation and Debug Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Client Computing Group to validate and debug post-silicon CPU/System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms for laptops, desktops and gaming systems. The role focuses on test development, silicon bring-up, root-cause analysis, and cross-functional issue resolution to ensure product reliability and performance.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience: approximately 1–6 years (minimums described in Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

The engineer will plan and execute post-silicon validation, lead debug efforts, and improve automation and coverage.

  • Develop and execute validation plans for CPU/SoC functionality, power and thermal management across silicon platforms.
  • Design, implement, and debug validation tests and methodologies in post-silicon lab environments.
  • Analyze and debug CPU/SoC and system-level issues using lab tools and software diagnostics.
  • Lead cross-functional debug task forces to root-cause and resolve issues impacting program milestones.
  • Drive validation automation, increase coverage, and improve execution efficiency.
  • Collaborate with design, firmware, software, and manufacturing teams to integrate fixes and verify delivery.
  • Mentor junior validation engineers and share debugging best practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for initial consideration; preferred items listed separately.

  • Hands-on experience in post-silicon validation, pre-silicon verification, or design in CPU, SoC, or chipset domains (minimum 1+ year as stated in posting).
  • Experience with SOC and CPU architecture, microarchitecture, and power management flows (minimum 1+ year or relevant coursework/experience).
  • Proficiency in scripting or programming (Python, C/C++, Perl) to develop validation tools and frameworks.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging skills, and ability to work independently across multiple priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree plus 3+ years of related experience, or Master’s degree plus 6+ months of related experience, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Job experience, internships, coursework, or research may be considered as equivalent. Preferred: advanced degree candidates with 5+ years of experience are encouraged.

Preferred Qualifications

Nice-to-have skills and domain knowledge that strengthen candidacy.

  • Experience with graphics, media, or display IP architectures and power management (2+ years preferred).
  • Familiarity with power and performance testing methodologies and silicon bring-up/validation flows.
  • Experience with silicon validation tools and lab equipment (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes) and practical debugging techniques.
  • Knowledge of firmware/software interactions with hardware and Intel architecture experience is a plus.
